Sponsored by KSYS, The Wooly Wonders Knitting Guild & The Locksmith near Bothell
SAT., AUG. 30
9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
Taught by Andrea Wong

The main characteristic is that the yarn is either wrapped behind the neck or looped through a pin attached to the shoulder in order to maintain a tension which is constant.  The advantages are:  It is faster than either the American or Continental styles; it requires less hand movement, which is good for those suffering from arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome; it helps maintain constant tension.

9:00 a.m. – 12:00  Andrea will teach the basic techniques of Portuguese Knitting (knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing and ribbing).  For this portion of the class you will need a worsted weight yarn in a light color and size 6 or 7 needles. (Straight or circular)

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Andrea will teach fair isle knitting using the Portuguese knitting techniques.  The class project will be a hat.  The size of the hat will depend on the yarn you choose.  For example, sport weight yarn would be for a child, worsted weight yarn will make a larger hat.  Needle size needs to be appropriate for your yarn.

Kindred Spirits will be open at 8 a.m. for your shopping convenience.  Please have your purchases completed so the class may begin promptly at 9 a.m.

Cost of the workshop will be $55.00 for knitting guild members and $65.00 for non-guild members for the all day class.  If you would like to participate in the morning session only the cost is $35.00 for guild members and $45.00 for non-guild members.  Your check will serve as your reservation for class.

We have recently come back from a buying trip having ordered lots of new things for the store.  Brown Sheep has a new worsted weight variegated wool with the most affordable price we have found.  We have several lace weight yarns on order and already several new lace shawl patterns have arrived.

Most originally, we ordered buffalo down fiber and yarn.  You must feel it to believe it.  Early in the fall we will be having a buffalo party to welcome our newest animal fiber to the shop.

Girls Night Out and Fashion Show Video – As usual, for girl’s night out we will be having dinner at a local restaurant and then moving back to the store for knitting. While on our buying trip, we saw a wonderful fashion show.  We were able to obtain a tape of the show so that everyone can watch.   There is no fee but your own dinner.  Please let us know if you plan to attend so that we can make reservations.  Girl’s Night Out will be Friday, August 1.

Knitter’s Day Out is September 19 and 20 in Harrisburg.  The class schedule is on their website.  For more information, visit www.knittersdayout.org.
